REGION_HU classifies the region in which the respondent's household was located. See the comparability tab for information on how the reporting level of territorial units changed across samples.

Comparability

REGION_HU changes administrative levels across samples. The codes on REGION_HU correspond to the standard Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS) coding system.

In 1999, the NUTS level is primarily at the second NUTS level. The exception being that Budapest and Pest are reported together at the first NUTS level under the label Central Hungary, while the remainder of codes are at the second NUTS level.

In 2009, the NUTS level reported is at the third NUTS level.
