For samples in which multiple diary days were completed per respondent, values start at 1 and increment by 1 until each diary has been numbered in the order in which they were completed.

In 1979, this is one of the surveys where the original id order does not reflect the date order of the diaries - even though CDAY is not included, this survey did collect two consecutive days, hence a Monday must always be after a Sunday in the sequence. In this survey, diary reflects the calendar order of the diaries, though there are cases where id=diary as well as cases where these variables are not equal. Users who seek to analyze diary order need to use the variable diary.
